And Noyze, tell me, do you think such information is widespread in our public library? And if the Internet itself is not a public library or a reservoir of information and the answers obtained from different sides are the same, should we deny that it exists? The agreement is not a joke, some parties or a particular group want us to think that way, that they want us to doubt that there is such an agreement to move our community and keep control of us and our country. The Sabahans and Sarawakians could not see how they would benefit from a merger. Many considered Malaya to be solely for the Malays, a group in which they had not locked themselves in. The specter of “Malaysia” recording the phrase “Malay” as frightening with its official religion of Islam and the official language of Malay, did nothing to allay their fears of “Malay domination”. For a merger, they insisted that the natives of Sabah and Sarawak enjoy the same privileges as the diemalaies. Subsequently, a 20-point agreement was reached between Sabah and the Malaysian government and a slightly different 18-point agreement from Sarawak. After many negotiations and British support for the merger, the impasse was resolved. Although the natives of Borneo were denied the privileges of the Malays, the merger took place on September 16, 1963. A commission of inquiry headed by Lord Cameron Cobbold and the Lansdowne Committee, an intergovernmental committee, have been appointed to assist in the development of the Malaysian agreement. Lord Lansdowne served for Great Britain and Tun Abdul Razak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Federation of Malaya, for Malaya.
The 18 points were based on the Nine Cardinal Principles of the domination of english Rajah. A similar memorandum, called a 20-point agreement, was developed and presented by Borneo North. The 18-point agreement often serves as a focal point for those who claim that Sarawak`s rights within the Federation have been eroded over time, such as Sabah. I am not here to oppose you to our government or our establishment, but above all to tell you of your rights that have been given to you and promised as Sarawakian or Sabahan! Now, tell me how many of these points were hurt by reading these points? Tell me, if you`re not crazy or angry after reading these dots, and most of them have been hurt… The main points of the agreement are highlighted below and collected by my observations of the current scenario and the experience gained.
